Lisa wants to experience everything New York has to offer. Unfortunately for her, she will.
In this MiniDV curio made for less than the Brooklyn apartment it was shot in, recent college grad Lisa (Isadora Leiva) arrives in New York City and quickly becomes entangled in an eccentric couples' strange and crumbling relationship after renting out a room in their residence.
YELLING FIRE IN AN EMPTY THEATER is part of our Slamdance Showcase, featuring three notable narrative features from last year's Slamdance Film Festival. Since 1995, the Slamdance Film Festival has served to spotlight emerging artists in the world of moviemaking and the Slamdance name has become synonymous with true independent spirit.
Nominated for outstanding performance in a feature film (Isadora Leiva) at the 2022 Slamdance Film Festival!
“Leiva endears… We champion her from frame one and only grow more protective as she traverses the chaos of a world unlike the fantasies depicted in the movies.” Jared Mobarak, The Film Stage
“Yelling Fire in an Empty Theater is simple and honest, and viewers, regardless of where they’re from, will be able to connect to it.” Kyle Bain, Film Threat
In keeping with the festival spirit, this feature will be preceded by a short: INTERSTATE by the talented young filmmaker Samuel McIntosh.
