A New York music journalist (voiced by Jeff Goldblum) goes on a quest to uncover the truth about Francisco Tenório Júnior, a young Brazilian samba-jazz pianist who disappeared in Buenos Aires on March 18, 1976.

A celebratory origin story of the world-renowned Latino musical movement Bossa Nova, THEY SHOT THE PIANO PLAYER captures a fleeting time bursting with creative freedom at a turning point in Latin American history in the 60s and 70s, just before the continent was engulfed by totalitarian regimes.

In English, Portuguese, and Spanish with English subtitles.

Please note: The screening on Sunday, March 31st will be shown with open captions.

“Jazz and animation make for strong bedfellows in They Shot the Piano Player, a film… that represents an intriguing hybrid in all sorts of ways.” Chris Willman, Variety

“Getting to hear these musicians remember Tenório Júnior in their own words against the backdrop of the film’s gorgeous art direction brings them more to life better than a standard live-action talking head interview ever could.” Claire Shaffer, New York Times
